Historic searches in Microsoft Dynamics CRM

We are about to migrate our membership database to Microsoft Dynamics CRM.
I have a low knowledge of databases and is wondering about wether or not we should
need to save data to another database to make historical searches in the future.
What kind of data will always be searchable in one of the views you can setup
and what kind of data do we need to save on for example a daily, weekly or monthly basis.

This is so that basically any question we might want to ask the database in the future, will be available
for us to search on.

Not sure if this is gonna help, but following is are the functionalities that come into picture when you want to search data within CRM.
You may achieve this using:

1. Quick Find

How to enable Quick find on a custom entity
How to enable quick find at field level

2. Advanced Find

For scenarios where same items are searched frequently, you can actually create a personal view using the following steps listed here:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics/crm-customer-center/create-edit-or-save-an-advanced-find-search.aspx
Further, you can share the view with other users if they are using the same search criteria.
Below is the overview of both Quick find as well as Advanced Find
http://crmbook.powerobjects.com/basics/searching-and-navigation/searching-crm/

3. Global Search

This is a new feature introduced since CRM 2015 and available in all later versions. By default it searches across 8 standard entities in CRM. But, you may further customize it to extend its search boundaries as listed in the following blog:

Thanks

Hi,

When you say migrate to Dynamics CRM, do you mean that Dynamics CRM will have all the future data and no data will be inserted to your membership database once the migration is done?

If you migrate all your data to Dynamics CRM, you will be able to search everything that is there in the Dynamics CRM database.

If you plan to make both your current database and Dynamics CRM exist at the same time, I suggest you need to save data daily basis. However, this is again a business requirement and everything will depend on it. Based on your needs, you should change the criteria to save the data daily/weekly/immediate basis.

Note: Any database operation to Dynamics CRM database directly through SQL Queries are unsupported and any interaction to be done to Dynamics CRM should be done via Microsoft Dynamics CRM sdk provided by MS only.

Hi Rikin (and Kiran)
Thanks for your replies.
Yes we will do a full migration to microsoft dynamics. The old database will be removed totally.
We have met with a few companies for making this migration. They do claim that in some cases you might find it useful or even necessary to store the data in another database for future searches.
My question is, in what kind of searches would this be  necessary?

Hope that is more clear.
