I live in Katy Texas, right on the city limits of Houston. I have been in the IT field professionally for about 11 years now, doing anything from Field Service, to Enterprise support. I have been lucky enough to have been exposed to a very wide variety of computer problems (some more difficult than others), and also managed to fix one or two along the way.
Why do I participate here at Experts Exchange.com?
I like helping people
I receive great satisfaction once a thread has been PAQ’ed, knowing I helped to get it resolved
I am constantly learning new things from various people here
You can really get a good feel for any major issues trending in the IT world, when you start seeing the same question repeatedly
How do I attack a question?
I certainly don’t know all the answers, to the problems facing the user community. Sometimes, I like to shoot from the hip. Even if I am not 100% sure of an answer, I will often ask a question to simply start the conversation. If I see that someone else has a better resolution, I will simply step aside and let that Expert run with it, or I will add my own 2 cents in support of that solution. It is amazing how easy it is to get more information that helps us diagnose/fix a problem when we all play together.
I do try and finish every thread, but some of them do get lost in the emails, and I miss coming back to them. I apologize in advance if this happens/ has happened to you in any thread I was helping with.
Sorry, but I don’t type out every response from scratch. That’s what our Knowledgebase is for. So if it seems a bit impersonal, not my intentions.
Expectations of the asker:
Ask the question clearly, and in as much detail as needed. Too much detail tends to make the Experts not want to subscribe to it.
If we ask a question, please provide an answer. If you ask a question, we will do the same.
Provide Screenshots wherever possible. A Picture is worth a 1,000 words!!
Score your question appropriately. Don’t have a total system failure, and only give it 50 points.
Please keep us updated in a timely manner. It is not a nice feeling to spend a large amount of time either writing a script, or researching a problem, for you not to return and have an Abandoned Question.
REMEMBER, we are all volunteers here. Unless I just have had my checks lost in the mail for the last 8 years, we don’t get paid for our participation, in anything but t-shirts and points.
Expectations of other Experts
Don’t re post the same information/links/suggesti
Feel free to use any of my answers, but please give credit where credit is due. I try and live by the same rule, as I will sometimes do the same.
If you have a problem with one of my solutions, please keep it to yourself, unless it has potential to DAMAGE the system we are working on. I also try and do the same. (see bottom for email address)
Rudeness/disrespect to both myself AND the asker is not tolerated, and will be reported accordingly.
Don’t just post links. Be as descriptive as possible with a title. I do not, and will not read every link on a page. I don’t think the asker’s want to as well.
Overall, let’s just have fun, and get some problems fixed. It’s all fun, the points and the t-shirts are great, but making sure that the asker gets their questions answered is my first goal ALWAYS.
If you would like to talk business, click the “Hire Me” link on the left over there for rates/description of services performed. I am only working with Individuals/Home and Home Office/Small Business setups at this time. I am gainfully employed in a full time 9-? Job, and that’s what pays the bills, so it gets priority. The last thing that I would want to hear from a client is that their DC crashed, the business is down, and they are dead in the water, knowing that I cannot be there until the evening to get everything recovered. Customers who need that level of support, I refer to different providers, so that way they are FULLY taken care of.
If you wanna see my achievements here, just look up.
Highlights:
Top overall points in:
Windows XP Operating System - Genius Rank
Microsoft Windows Operating Systems
Windows 7 - Genius Rank
Second overall points (but climbing)
Microsoft Operating Systems - Genius Rank
Those are also the main zones I hang out in. I like the AV/Malware zones, but due to differing philosophies on cleanup, I choose not to post too much in there, as they get very crowded.
If you wanna reach me just to talk, or say “hi”, drop me a line at ee-jblanke at att dot net.
Have fun!!
